Morića Han, Ottoman caravanserai in Baščaršija, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Morića Han is a stone building in Baščaršija organized around a central courtyard with two levels of rooms in classic Ottoman style. The walls and ceilings show traditional craftsmanship with Persian decorative elements that reflect its past as a trading hub.
The building was constructed in 1551 and rebuilt after a fire in 1697, maintaining its role as a trading station. It survived for centuries as a key location for commerce in Sarajevo.
The name comes from a wealthy merchant family who operated it during the Ottoman period. Visitors can still sense how traders once gathered here to conduct business and exchange goods.
The building sits in the heart of Baščaršija and is easy to reach on foot, especially when walking through the narrow streets. Visitors can stop by anytime to admire the facade or step inside to explore the shops and restaurants.
This is the last surviving caravanserai in Sarajevo and is still managed by the endowment of Gazi Husrev-Beg, which established it nearly 500 years ago. This unbroken connection makes it rare example of institutional continuity across centuries.
