Museum of the Old Bridge

The Museum of the Old Bridge is a space in Mostar dedicated to the famous stone arch crossing the Neretva River. Inside, photographs, documents, and technical plans show how the bridge was constructed, what materials were used, and how it was designed to span the river.

The bridge was built in the 16th century by Ottoman engineers as a key crossing point over the river. It was destroyed during the 1990s conflict and later rebuilt, becoming a symbol of the city's recovery and reconnection.

The exhibits show how the bridge served as a meeting point for different groups living on either side of the river over the centuries. You will find personal stories and artworks that reflect what the crossing meant to daily life in the city.

The museum is located near the bridge itself and is easy to reach on foot from the city center with clear signage. The exhibits are spread across several levels, so plan for about an hour to walk through and read the displays.

You can view original stone fragments from the destroyed bridge, along with historical construction tools and Ottoman-era engineering drawings. These items provide a direct connection to the craftsmanship and techniques that built the structure centuries ago.
