Church of St. Peter and Paul, Roman Catholic monastery and church in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a parish church and Franciscan monastery in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, situated at the foot of Hum mountain near the Radobolja River. The complex includes the church itself, the monastery building, and a tall bell tower that rises above the surrounding rooftops.
The original church was built in 1866 during the period of Ottoman reforms and served the city's Catholic community for decades before being destroyed in 1992 during the war. The current complex was consecrated in 1999, after reconstruction efforts that followed the end of the conflict.
The Franciscan complex is an active center of Catholic life in Mostar, drawing both worshippers and visitors curious about the religious side of the city. Masses are held regularly, and the monastery still houses a community of friars who shape the daily life of the place.
The church is located in the western part of Mostar and is easy to reach on foot from the old town area. Visitors are welcome outside of service times, when access to the interior is generally more straightforward.
The bell tower was built taller during reconstruction than the original 1866 version, a deliberate choice to make it a visible mark of renewal. It is now one of the few points in Mostar from which both banks of the Neretva River can be seen at once.
