Bandarban District

Bandarban District spans 4,479 square kilometers of hills, rivers, and valleys in southeastern Bangladesh, bordering Myanmar and containing seven administrative subdivisions called upazilas.

The district received its administrative designation in 1981, transforming from a remote hill region into an organized territory with Bandarban town as its capital.

The region contains multiple ethnic groups including Marma, Mro, Tripuri, and Bawm peoples, who maintain their traditions through festivals, music, and traditional craft production.

Visitors need authorization from the Home Ministry prior to entering the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, with bus connections available from Dhaka, Chittagong, and Cox's Bazar.

The district features the second largest Buddha statue in Bangladesh at Buddha Dhatu Jadi temple, alongside numerous hills reaching elevations suitable for trekking expeditions.
