RE Grave, Railway Wood, War cemetery in Zillebeke, Belgium.

The RE Grave site contains a Cross of Sacrifice marking the location where twelve Royal Engineers soldiers remain buried beneath the ground.

Between November 1915 and August 1917, members of the 177th Tunnelling Company Royal Engineers created defensive networks while engaging in underground warfare.

The memorial grounds were granted to the United Kingdom by King Albert I of Belgium as recognition of the military sacrifices during World War I.

The cemetery stands 4 kilometers east of Ypres on Bellewaerde Ridge, near the Cambridge Road sector between Wieltje and Hooge locations.

Unlike traditional war cemeteries, this site lacks individual gravestones as the soldiers could not be recovered from their underground position.
