The Liverpool Scottish memorial stone, World War I memorial in Ypres, Belgium
The memorial stone features the badge of the 10th Scottish Battalion and stands at Railway Wood on the Bellewaarde Ridge near Zillebeke, east of Ypres.
On June 16, 1915, the Liverpool Scottish Battalion advanced toward German trenches, resulting in 75 soldiers killed, 201 wounded, and 103 missing in action.
The memorial incorporates two tonnes of flagstones from Liverpool streets, creating a physical connection between the regiment's home city and their battleground.
The stone displays inscriptions in English and Dutch, providing detailed information about the battalion's actions during the Battle of Bellewaarde.
The memorial's centerpiece originated as the keystone from Fraser Street barracks, later relocated to Belgium in 2000 after serving at different locations in Liverpool.
