Hill 62 Memorial, War memorial at Zillebeke, Belgium
The Hill 62 Memorial features a 15-tonne granite block set atop three landscaped terraces with rose gardens that overlook the surrounding countryside of Ypres.
In June 1916, Canadian forces engaged in fierce battles at this location, suffering 8,430 casualties while defending and recapturing strategic positions from German forces.
The memorial inscription commemorates the Canadian Corps' defense of Ypres between April and August 1916, along the line from Hooge to St. Eloi.
Located 3 kilometers east of Ypres, the memorial site includes parking facilities and can be accessed via Canadalaan, a maple tree-lined road from Meenseweg N8.
From the memorial steps, visitors observe the church towers of Ypres at a distance of five kilometers, offering perspective on the strategic value of this elevation.
