Los Piratas, Dark ride in Zonnebeke, Belgium.
Los Piratas was a dark ride at Bellewaerde Park that guided guests through scenes featuring pirate and Mexican-themed elements. Multiple vehicles traveled along a track system through enclosed spaces decorated with mechanical figures and elaborate theming.
The attraction opened in 1991 and served as a popular ride at the park for more than 20 years. It closed in 2012 and was eventually replaced by the Huracan roller coaster.
The ride incorporated elements of maritime exploration and Mexican designs through a sequence of mechanical figures and decorative installations.
The ride moved through dark spaces filled with different scenes best explored at a relaxed pace. It helps to know the attraction no longer operates, so only memories and historical photos from those years remain.
Manufacturer Mack Rides designed a special system with free-floating splash elements that made the ride distinctive. These water effects reached heights of about 10 feet (3 meters) and created surprising moments for passengers.
