Herentals

Herentals is a municipality with city status in Antwerp Province and encompasses the central city area along with the towns of Morkhoven and Noorderwijk. The area is connected by regional transportation routes and local bus networks that link the different parts together.

The municipality received city rights during the Middle Ages and grew into a regional trade hub with defensive gateways. Two of these medieval gates, the Bovenpoort and Zandpoort, remain standing today and reflect the town's former fortified character.

Saint Walburga Church anchors the town center with its long presence in local life. The town hall's belfry stands as a recognized UNESCO monument that reflects the town's importance in the region.

The city center is easily walkable and offers shops, restaurants, and daily services within a compact area. Visitors should note that central parking can be limited during busy times, making early morning exploration a practical approach.

The only factory in the world producing Milka Leo chocolate wafer bars is located here alongside the Hidrodoe science museum. These two attractions draw visitors interested in both industrial heritage and interactive learning experiences.
