Malou Park, park in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, Belgium
Malou Park is a large green space in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert with lawns, mature trees, and a pond where paths wind around the water. The grounds are defined by a white classical manor house called Château Malou, which sits on a slope overlooking a broad lawn from its position on a rise.
The site has been known since the 12th century and changed hands many times over the centuries. Jules Malou, a Belgian Prime Minister, purchased the estate in 1853 and his name remained attached to the château and later the park, after his family transferred the land to the city in 1952.
The park takes its name from a Belgian politician who shaped the region in the 19th century. Today, visitors can see how this historical place has become woven into the daily life of local residents who come here to relax and meet with others.
The paths in the park are easy to walk and connect different areas, allowing visitors to move around comfortably. Château Malou is often open for cultural events, and visitors can explore the grounds freely, especially when access is available for special occasions.
The château was built in 1776 on the foundation of an older hunting lodge, but Jesuits had managed the land for about a century before that. This religious connection and the complex ownership history, including a banker named Lambert de Lamberts, give the place a layered hidden past.
