Ardenne Castle

Ardenne Castle was a royal residence in Houyet featuring 140 guest rooms equipped with modern amenities such as electric lighting, running water, and telephones. The estate included its own railway station to serve arriving visitors.

King Leopold I acquired extensive land in 1837 and commissioned a stone tower and hunting lodge before the main castle was constructed. The estate evolved into a grand royal residence during the 19th century.

The castle served as a gathering place where European nobility and wealthy travelers mingled in the Ardenne forests. Visitors experienced a sense of exclusivity and leisure in this remote yet refined setting.

The remaining Leopold Tower now operates as a clubhouse and may be viewed through arrangements with local tourism offices in the region. It is best to check ahead regarding access and visiting hours.
