Castle of Fenffe, Royal château in Fenffe, Belgium
The Castle of Fenffe is a residential mansion in Houyet built with two stories of pink-painted bricks and blue stone. The roof is covered with slate and features decorative wooden cornices.
The castle was built in the second half of the 16th century when Charles de Poitiers acquired the property from the Fenffe family in 1580. He constructed the building that still stands today.
The castle served as a home for Prince Albert and Princess Paola before they became king and queen. It holds a special place in Belgium's royal family history and personal story.
The castle is private property belonging to the Royal Trust of Belgium and cannot be visited inside. You can view the building from the outside, but access to the grounds is not permitted.
A fire in 1966 caused significant damage to the building, but architect Filaine oversaw a careful restoration in 1967 that preserved its original character. This reconstruction proved crucial to the castle's survival.
