Arc Majeur, Steel sculpture along E411 motorway in Lavaux-Sainte-Anne, Belgium
The Arc Majeur reaches 60 meters high and spans 75 meters in diameter, forming a massive curved steel structure across the E411 highway near Rochefort.
The project started in 1984 under French Culture Minister Jack Lang but faced local opposition in France before finding its place in Belgium in 2019.
French artist Bernar Venet designed this industrial sculpture using 200 tons of Corten steel to create geometric forms that connect with the surrounding landscape.
Visitors can observe the sculpture while driving on the E411 motorway at kilometer marker 99, between Namur and Luxembourg provinces.
The John Cockerill Foundation funded this private project with 2.5 million euros, manufacturing the steel sections in their Liege workshops.
