Pope's College, Leuven

Pope's College is a protected monument and student residence in Leuven with classical architecture. The building combines an 18th-century front section with multiple living quarters and was rebuilt in neoclassical style after a collapse in 1775.

The college was founded in 1523 by Pope Adrian VI and underwent major reconstruction after a collapse in 1775. This rebuilding fundamentally changed its structure and shaped how it looks today.

The college houses students from the Catholic University of Leuven and continues serving its educational mission today. It remains an active part of university life and shapes how students live and work together in the city.

The building is primarily an active student residence and therefore has limited public access. Visitors can view the exterior from the street and admire its architectural details from outside.

Between 1792 and 1811, the building served unexpected roles as political headquarters, hospital, and military barracks. This unusual period shows how the site adapted its function to meet the needs of its time.
