Cornillon Abbey, Medieval monastery in Liège, Belgium

Cornillon Abbey is a monastery complex situated on the right bank of the Meuse River at an elevated location above Liège. The buildings occupy a prominent position that overlooks the surrounding area and the city below.

The monastery was founded in 1124 and relocated to a new site in 1288, becoming known as Beaurepart Abbey. This move represented a significant transition in the community's development.

The site is named after Saint Juliana of Liège, whose spiritual presence shaped the community that gathered here. Her teachings left a lasting mark on how people understood religious devotion in this place.

The site now serves as the residence of the Bishop of Liège and functions as a seminary for religious training. Visitors should know that the buildings remain in active use and may have limited access times for tours.

The monastery operated as a double abbey with separate living quarters for male and female religious communities during its early years. This arrangement allowed both groups to maintain their own routines while being part of the same spiritual community.
