Choco-Story Bruges, Chocolate museum in Bruges, Belgium
Choco-Story occupies the 16th-century Huis de Crone on Sint-Jansplein, at the corner of Wijnzakstraat and Sint-Jansstraat. The building previously served as a wine tavern, a bakery and a furniture shop. The museum displays chocolate-making equipment and demonstrations, and a section covers chocolate's health benefits. The rear building houses the Lumina Domestica lamp museum.
The museum was founded by the Van Belle family and traces chocolate's journey over thousands of years from its sacred use as a ceremonial drink in Mesoamerica. The exhibition follows how cacao arrived in Europe and gradually transformed into the sweetened confection people know today.
The name refers to Bruges' long tradition as a center for chocolate makers, and you can see throughout the displays how this craft has shaped local identity. Visitors encounter the tools, molds, and production methods that generations of artisans refined in this city.
The exhibition spaces are well-marked, and the museum provides information in several languages to help with navigation throughout the building. Plan for at least a couple of hours to walk through all three floors and explore the displays at a comfortable pace.
The rear building houses Lumina Domestica, a lamp museum displaying about 6,500 pieces from a private collection of interior lighting, beginning with prehistoric oil lamps. The same ticket covers both museums, so visitors see chocolate and lamps in one visit.
