Recogne German war cemetery, War cemetery in Bastogne, Belgium.
Recogne German War Cemetery is a war cemetery in Bastogne containing the graves of approximately 6,800 German soldiers. The site features rows of white crosses arranged in an orderly pattern across green fields.
This cemetery was established after the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 and initially served both German and American casualties. American remains were moved to another location in 1947, leaving only German burials.
This cemetery functions as a place for remembrance where visitors come face to face with the human cost of conflict. People gather here to reflect on the past and honor those who died.
The cemetery is located north of Bastogne along Route N30 heading toward Houffalize. Visitors can find it by turning left at Foy and following the directional signs.
Many of those buried here were extremely young, with some soldiers only 17 years old at the time of their death. A significant portion of the burials here resulted from the Ardennes winter offensive.
