The military memorial features a preserved Panther tank type G, positioned prominently in the center of Houffalize at Place de Roi Albert.
The tank belonged to the 116th Panzer Division during the Battle of the Bulge and ended up in the Ourthe River until its recovery in 1948.
The monument represents the alignment between Patton's Third Army and Hodges First Army, marking the liberation of Houffalize on January 16th, 1945.
Engineers from Namur extracted the tank from the Ourthe River, documenting its original identification number as 111 for historical preservation purposes.
This Panther tank stands as one of only three remaining German tanks from World War II in the Belgian Ardennes region.
