Volkshuis Bond Moyson

Volkshuis Bond Moyson is an Art Nouveau building on Friday Market Square in Ghent. Its three-story facade displays arched windows, Tuscan pilasters, and ornate wrought iron details throughout.

After a fire in 1897, architect Ferdinand Dierkens redesigned the complex from scratch. The new building combined a cooperative store with spaces for community meetings and gatherings.

The golden inscriptions and rooster symbol on the facade represent the worker's movement and its ideals. These symbols held deep meaning for the communities that gathered inside.

The building houses meeting halls and multipurpose rooms used by local associations and community groups. Keep in mind it functions as an active gathering place for residents and organizations.

A rooster crowns the facade alongside a historic inscription reading 'Eight hours work, eight hours leisure, eight hours rest'. This motto reflects the core values the worker's movement fought to establish.
