The structure consists of three sections with distinct architectural features, including a cross-vaulted design and a two-floor tomb chapel configuration.
The original eastern section of Boyana Church emerged between the late 10th and early 11th centuries, followed by expansions in the 13th and 19th centuries.
The church walls display 89 detailed scenes with 240 human figures, representing religious narratives and medieval Bulgarian artistic techniques.
Visitors must join guided tours to enter the church, which operates daily from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM with an entrance fee of 10 leva.
The 1259 frescoes inside the church present individual characters with distinct facial expressions and personality traits, marking an early example of psychological portraiture.
