Бай Кръстьо

Bai Krastyo is a mountain shelter located at about 1400 meters elevation on the northern slope of Vitosha, overlooking Sofia's Dragalevtsi district. The facility provides meals and accommodations for visitors and sits along several marked hiking trails connecting to surrounding areas.

In the early 1900s, mountaineer Krastyo Grozev established a fountain and constructed a small shelter at this location. The original structure gradually expanded over the years to become a popular mountain refuge.

The shelter serves as a gathering place where hikers and mountain enthusiasts stop to enjoy traditional Bulgarian dishes like baked beans and hearty soups. Visitors experience local food traditions and meet people from Sofia who share a passion for the mountains.

The location is easily reached from Sofia's lower areas and serves as a starting point for various hiking routes toward Dragalevtsi, Simeonovo, and other mountain huts. Visitors should bring proper footwear and water, as trail conditions vary depending on the season.

The shelter sits at a middle station of the Dragalevtsi-Goli Peak chairlift, which directly connects Sofia's lower districts with the higher mountain regions. This cable connection makes it a convenient stopover for visitors who prefer not to walk the entire climb on foot.
