Church of St John the Baptist, Medieval Orthodox church in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria
The church structure features alternating rows of stone and brickwork, with five blind arches on the north and south walls, plus three on the west wall.
Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, the church functioned as part of the northern fortifications of medieval Asenovgrad, known then as Stenimachos.
The interior walls display 18th-century frescoes depicting religious figures, including the Mother of God, Jesus Christ, and John the Baptist.
The church building measures 9.20 by 5.80 meters and contains a single triangular apse with three small windows for natural illumination.
The structure includes defensive arrowslits in its walls, making it the only medieval religious building in the region with military architecture elements.
