Church of the Holy Saviour

The Church of the Holy Saviour is an Orthodox place of worship in Nesebar with a single-nave layout and an apse at the east end. The interior space is compact, designed to accommodate worshippers while maintaining traditional Byzantine proportions.

This Orthodox church was built in 1609 by a wealthy resident of Nesebar, with a donor inscription still visible above the south entrance. The construction took place during the tenure of Metropolitan Kipriyan and reflects the community's religious life under Ottoman rule.

The interior walls feature frescoes showing Gospel scenes and depictions of saints that visitors can see today. The image of the Madonna with Child in the apse is a focal point that draws the eye when you enter.

The church is located in the northern section of Old Nesebar and can be reached easily by walking through the narrow streets of the old town. As an active place of worship, it maintains regular hours that allow visitors to view the interior.

The church once held the burial monument of a Byzantine princess from the 15th century, which was later moved to the local Archaeological Museum. This royal connection reveals an unexpected chapter in the site's past that connects it to the broader Byzantine world.
