Trigrad Gorge

Trigrad Gorge is a marble canyon in the Rhodope Mountains with steep vertical walls of light-colored stone on both sides. A river runs through the valley floor and several cave openings are visible along the rocky slopes.

The gorge was carved by the Trigradska River over millions of years as water gradually wore through the marble bedrock. This slow geological process created the deep passage visible today.

The Devil's Throat Cave within the gorge features prominently in local stories and draws visitors interested in exploring the connection between the landscape and regional folklore. People come to experience how nature and storytelling intertwine in this remote corner of the mountains.

The area is best explored on foot, with several walking routes available through the valley and to nearby caves. Sturdy shoes and caution are recommended as some paths can be steep or slippery, especially near the river.

The river flowing through the gorge vanishes into a cave system underground and resurfaces further down the valley as a spring. This underground journey creates a natural waterfall inside the cave that few visitors witness directly.
