Devil's Throat Cave

Devil's Throat is a show cave in the Western Rhodopes featuring an underground waterfall that drops about 42 meters through a vertical shaft. The cavern extends underground with passages carved by the Trigrad River flowing through marble rock.

The cave formed millions of years ago as the Trigrad River carved through marble, shaping the underground passages and chambers. This natural process created the subterranean landscape that exists today.

Local stories link this place to the ancient myth of Orpheus descending into the underworld to save his beloved. The connection between the cave and this legend remains part of how people talk about and experience the location today.

The cave is accessible through guided tours daily, with visitors descending over 280 steps alongside the underground river. The interior is cool and damp, so bringing appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear is recommended.

Objects dropped into the cave's underground river never reappear at its exit point, despite scientists tracking their path. This puzzle remains unsolved, making the location a place where natural mysteries endure.
