Samodivsko praskalo, waterfall in Bulgaria
Samodivsko praskalo is a waterfall in Bulgaria approximately 70 meters tall, consisting of two tiers where water descends in fine spraying streams. The water flows over rocks and creates a mist that cools the area around the base of the falls.
The waterfall was shaped over time through river erosion and remains a significant natural feature in the Rhodope Mountains region. Local legends about mythological beings associated with the falls have been part of community stories for generations.
The name refers to samodivas, fairy-like spirits from Bulgarian folklore and mythology. Visitors come to experience both the natural landscape and the local legends connected to this place, which add a sense of mystery and cultural depth to the visit.
The waterfall is reached via a well-marked hiking trail starting from a parking area and taking approximately 30 minutes on foot, with some wet and slippery sections. Sturdy footwear is essential, and it is wise to bring water and a camera since there are no major facilities nearby.
Local legend tells of three women who braided their hair together and jumped into the waters to escape pursuers, transforming into mythical beings in the process. Visitors report hearing what they believe to be singing around the waterfall at night, bringing the legendary tale to life.
