Devil's Throat Waterfall

Devil's Throat Waterfall is an underground cascade in the Rhodope Mountains that plunges into a vast cavern called the Roaring Hall. The chamber stretches roughly 110 meters long and 40 meters wide, creating a dramatic natural space within the mountain.

In ancient times, local people gathered here for ceremonial rituals, believing the place was a gateway to the underworld. The connection to the legend of Orpheus shaped the mythical importance attached to this location.

Long-fingered bats inhabit the cave system and depend on the moist environment for survival. The presence of these creatures gives the place ecological importance across the Balkan region.

You enter through a 150-meter gallery, then descend roughly 300 concrete steps beside the water cascade. Electric lighting and handrails guide you throughout the entire route.

After the waterfall, the underground river vanishes into a 150-meter siphon system, then mysteriously resurfaces 60 meters away. This hidden flow reveals how water carves invisible paths through the mountain's interior.
