Batkun Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Patalenitsa, Bulgaria

Batkun Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in Pazardzhik with a stone church featuring one nave and a bell tower. The complex sits on the northern slopes of Karkaria mountain with views across the surrounding landscape.

The monastery was established around 1400, though archaeological evidence reveals an ancient Thracian temple previously occupied the site. This location carries layers of history spanning from pre-Christian to medieval times.

The monastery serves the local Orthodox community through regular services and remains a place where spiritual practices continue today. Walking through the grounds, you can sense how the site remains woven into the religious rhythm of the area.

The site is located south of Pazardzhik and can be reached via a marked turnoff along the road connecting Patalenitsa and Vetren dol. Access to the complex is straightforward once you spot the correct junction.

The monastery grounds contain a 500-year-old grapevine that has been officially recognized as a natural monument of Bulgaria. This ancient vine is one of the most remarkable living features on the site.
