Milevi Skali, Mountain summit in Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria

Milevi Skali is a rocky summit in the Alabak ridge of the western Rhodopes, rising to 1,593.5 m. It sits on the watershed between the Chepinska and Yadenitsa river basins and is built of metamorphic rocks. Coniferous forest on its slopes gives way to mixed and beech woodland lower down.

On 4 September 1944 a battle took place here between government forces and the Chepinets partisan brigade together with the Angel Kanchev partisan detachment. A monument and a memorial plaque bearing the names of the fallen partisans stand at the summit. In 1968 the site was declared a historical monument of culture of national importance.

The best time to visit is during dry weather with good visibility, particularly in the warmer months when mountain conditions are more stable. Bring sturdy footwear, plenty of water, and navigation tools to ensure a safe outing.

The protected area around the summit covers 115.1 hectares and was declared to safeguard the panoramic peak, its rock faces and beech forests. The whole Alabak ridge, summit included, lies within the Yadenitsa Natura 2000 site. The peak marks the watershed between the Chepinska and Yadenitsa rivers.
