Княжевский монастырь, Orthodox monastery in Knyazhevo, Bulgaria
The Knyazhevo Monastery is an Orthodox religious complex near Tsar Boris III Boulevard in Sofia with residential buildings, a central church, and a separate chapel. The structures form a compact compound designed to serve both monastic community life and visitor worship.
Archbishop Serafim Sobolev and Abbess Serafima founded the monastery in 1948 on ground where a small 15th-century Church of Saint Luke once stood. This establishment created a new monastic center that replaced the earlier religious site.
The monastery holds a copy of the Iveron Myrrh-streaming icon that devotees venerate as miraculous. This religious focus shapes how visitors experience the sacred spaces throughout the complex.
The monastery opens to visitors on Sundays and major religious holidays, with services concluding around 10:30 AM. After morning worship ends, visitors can walk through the grounds and view the sacred spaces.
The monastery maintains an extensive library of old printed religious materials and rare texts. This collection represents an important preservation effort for Orthodox written tradition.
