The University of Windsor is a public higher education institution in Windsor, Ontario, located on the Canadian shore of the Detroit River and offering undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide range of academic fields. The campus covers about 130 acres (51 hectares) and includes lecture halls, research centers, a major university library, and several student residence buildings.
The university was established in 1963 and emerged from Assumption College, a Catholic educational institution founded in 1857 that was originally linked to Western University. It gained independent public university status at its founding and has since expanded its academic offerings continuously.
