One King Street West, Heritage skyscraper in Financial District, Toronto, Canada
One King Street West is a skyscraper in Toronto's Financial District that combines a contemporary glass tower with a restored 1914 Beaux-Arts building. The historic base displays Renaissance Revival details and Corinthian columns, while a modern 51-floor structure rises above it.
The building was originally constructed in 1914 as The Dominion Bank, designed by architectural firm Darling and Pearson. It underwent major conversion into a hotel residence in 2005, transforming its use from financial institution to mixed-use residential complex.
The Grand Banking Hall with its gold leaf coffered ceiling serves as an event space today. Visitors can see how the original banking interior has been adapted for modern gatherings while keeping its ornamental character.
The building contains 575 residential and commercial suites spread between the historic base and the contemporary tower. Eight elevators serve all floors, making navigation through this mixed-use complex straightforward for residents and visitors.
The original bank vault was transported using 19 horses and 8 men during the building's renovation. This substantial vault now functions as a private dining and meeting space within the complex.
