Scotia Plaza, Office skyscraper in Financial District, Toronto, Canada
Scotia Plaza is a 275-meter office tower in the Financial District with distinctive red granite cladding and dark tinted windows. The building features a parallelogram-shaped floor plan distributed across 68 above-ground levels.
The tower was completed in 1988 and incorporated an existing 1951 Bank of Nova Scotia building into its design. This merger preserved earlier banking architecture while creating a contemporary office complex.
The red granite exterior and slanted floor plan shape how this tower stands out among other buildings in the Financial District. Visitors notice how the structure reflects a specific era of Toronto's banking identity through its bold architectural choices.
The tower connects directly to Toronto's PATH underground network and sits near King subway station for easy transit access. Visitors can find shopping, dining, and other services throughout the connected pedestrian system.
During construction, the foundation excavation reached depths greater than 33 meters, setting a record for Canada at that time. This remarkable depth was necessary to support the tower's massive structure beneath the city streets.
