Marianopolis College, private English-language college in Quebec
Marianopolis College is an English-language CEGEP in Westmount, a borough of Montreal, Quebec. It offers pre-university programs that bridge high school and university, following the Quebec two-year college system.
The college was founded in 1908 by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre-Dame and originally served as a school for girls. It became a coeducational CEGEP following the Quebec education reform of 1967, which created the two-year college system.
The college is known for its extensive club offerings, with over 100 groups that reflect student interests across arts, science, and social causes. Arts festivals, a student newspaper, and a literary journal show how creative expression and community engagement shape daily life here.
The campus is located in a residential part of Westmount and is accessible by public transit from central Montreal. Visiting during daytime on a weekday gives a better sense of the campus, as it is more active and some common areas may be open.
Although the college operates within the English-language education system of Quebec, its name comes from Marianopolis, a Latin form of the name of a town in southern Italy tied to the founders. The main building was originally a private mansion, which gives the campus a character quite different from a typical school.
