Bowmanville Zoo, Private zoo in Clarington, Ontario
Bowmanville Zoo was a private facility in Clarington, Ontario that spread across several acres of land near the Cream of Barley Mill. The grounds housed a wide variety of exotic animals in spacious enclosures.
Founded in 1919, this facility operated for nearly a century before closing in 2016 due to financial difficulties. The long operational period ended when economic challenges became unsustainable.
The facility supplied trained animals to film and television productions, playing a key role in the entertainment industry for decades. This connection to Hollywood made it a notable source of animal actors for major productions.
Since the facility no longer operates, visitors can only explore the transformed site now called Clarington Family Outdoor Adventure Park. The grounds now offer different recreational activities in the same natural setting.
Following investigations into animal welfare practices, the property was transformed into Clarington Family Outdoor Adventure Park in 2017. This conversion marked the end of its time as a zoo and began a new chapter for the site.
