Atlantic Motorsport Park, motorsports facility
Atlantic Motorsport Park is a racing track in Nova Scotia that has operated since 1974 and spans approximately 1.6 miles (2.6 kilometers). The course combines straightaways with challenging turns, including a distinctive downhill section and a series of twisting corners.
The track opened in 1974 after being built by motorsport enthusiasts to address the shortage of racing facilities on Canada's east coast. The legendary Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve set the lap record here in 1975 and played an important role in establishing the facility's early racing legacy.
The park's name reflects its location in Canada's Atlantic region. You can experience a close-knit community of drivers and racing fans who gather regularly to share their passion for motorsport.
The best way to visit the park is to drive north from Halifax on Highway 102 toward Shubenacadie, a journey of about one hour. Racing events run from May to October, with spectators finding convenient parking and good viewing areas along the course.
The park is entirely run by local motorsport clubs and is believed to be the only facility in North America operated by volunteers for national-level racing. The distinctive downhill section with sharp turns, known as the dog-leg, was created by following the natural slope of the land, making the course technically demanding for drivers.
