Blackfriars Street Bridge, Wrought iron bowstring arch bridge in London, Canada
The Blackfriars Street Bridge stretches 212 feet across the North Thames River, connecting Blackfriars Street to Ridout Street North in London, Ontario.
Built in 1875 by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company from Canton, Ohio, this bridge replaced multiple wooden structures that had existed at the site since 1831.
The bridge structure influenced local artist Ted Goodden to create a series of stained glass windows titled '12 Views of Blackfriars Bridge'.
Following extensive restoration in 2017, the bridge reopened in December 2018 for pedestrians, cyclists, and single-lane vehicle traffic.
This structure maintains the distinction of being North America's oldest wrought iron bridge still carrying vehicular traffic, featuring original pin connections and lattice girders.
