Fort Dufferin

Fort Dufferin sits on the west bank of the Red River, displaying four original buildings from the period of operation. The kitchen, storage building, stable, and latrine show what daily life looked like at this frontier post.

The fort was established in 1872 as a base for surveying the border between Canada and the United States. It later became a receiving point for thousands of immigrants settling the region.

The site served as a gateway for newcomers arriving by water, symbolizing the moment when travelers transitioned from outsiders to settlers. This function shaped how locals understood the fort's role in building the region.

The site is easy to locate, positioned right along the river, which helps with orientation. The four structures sit outdoors on accessible grounds where visitors can walk around freely.
