Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area

The Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area extends across 2,800 acres of public land, featuring steep valley cliffs and the largest continuous forest in North Dakota.

The recreation area officially opened on June 30, 2012, and received approval in May 2023 to become North Dakota's fourteenth state park.

The natural diversity of the area includes 480 species of vascular plants, representing one-third of North Dakota's total flora collection.

Visitors can rent kayaks with safety equipment for half-day trips at $32 or full-day adventures at $50, including transportation services along two river routes.

The protected zone contains 51 rare species, with 21 animal species and 30 plant species, of which eight plants exist nowhere else in North Dakota.
