AN/FPQ-16 PARCS, Phased array radar at Cavalier Space Force Station, United States.
The AN/FPQ-16 PARCS radar system contains 6,144 active antenna elements within an octagonal structure measuring 30 meters in diameter facing north over Hudson Bay.
The radar facility started operations in 1975 as part of the Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Complex for anti-ballistic missile defense before transitioning to Space Force control.
Personnel from both United States and Canadian military forces work together at the installation, operating the radar system around the clock for North American defense.
The radar system monitors over half of all Earth-orbiting objects and can detect potential missile launches against North America from distances up to 3,000 kilometers.
The installation includes an underground power plant with five dual-fuel engines generating 14 megawatts through General Electric manufactured generators.
