International Avenue Bridge

The International Avenue Bridge is a road bridge spanning the St. Croix River to connect the Canadian city of St. Stephen in New Brunswick with the American city of Calais in Maine. The structure carries vehicle traffic between the two nations at this border crossing point.

This bridge opened in November 2009 and was the first new border crossing structure built between Canada and the United States after several decades without new construction. The project marked a significant infrastructure investment connecting the two border communities.

The International Avenue Bridge strengthens the connection between two border communities, facilitating daily interactions between residents of New Brunswick and Maine.

The bridge is open 24 hours daily and connects Route 1 on both sides of the border. Visitors driving across should prepare for border inspection and have required travel documents ready.

This is the third active bridge structure spanning the St. Croix River between St. Stephen and Calais. The three bridges together form a network representing heavily used connections between the border communities.
