South Simcoe Railway, Heritage railway in New Tecumseth, Canada.
South Simcoe Railway operates vintage locomotives and restored passenger coaches from the 1920s along a track through the Beeton Creek Valley. The trains travel between two stations, showing visitors what rail travel looked like in earlier times.
The track follows the original Canadian Pacific Railway line from the early 1900s that once connected Hamilton with Barrie and Collingwood. Rail service on this route ended, but was later revived to keep this historical connection alive.
Local volunteers maintain and operate the trains, preserving knowledge of how steam and vintage railway systems work. This hands-on approach brings together people who want to share their passion for mechanical history.
The round-trip journey takes about one hour, with crew members sharing information and stories during the ride. Visitors should wear weather-appropriate clothing since part of the journey takes place in open cars.
Visitors can explore railway artifacts and displays at the stations before boarding. The operation also runs seasonal special event rides where themed activities happen on board.
