Cold Creek Conservation Area, Protected area in King Township, Canada
Cold Creek Conservation Area is a protected natural space in King Township comprising 190 hectares of mixed conifer forests, wetlands, and marked trails set in glacial moraine landscape. The site features over 7 kilometers of paths and a visitor parking area.
The conservation area was established in 1962 by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and opened by Wilf Spooner. It was created to protect this significant natural woodland landscape.
The area serves visitors as a place to learn about local tree species, animal habitats, and nature conservation along its marked paths. It shows how people and the landscape work together in this region.
The trails are open daily from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and well-marked for easy navigation. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring weather-appropriate clothing, as the ground can be damp depending on the season.
The area is home to black spruce trees, which are uncommon in southern Ontario, and provides nesting sites for around 110 bird species. These unusual trees and multiple nest boxes make it a vital refuge for birds.
