Stouffville, Population centre in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Canada.
Stouffville is a population centre in York Region and the Greater Toronto Area. It spans approximately 4.5 kilometers (3 miles) from York-Durham Line to Highway 48, bordered by farmland on several sides.
Abraham Stouffer founded this settlement in 1804 as Stoufferville, and it received its first post office in 1832 under the shortened name. The community grew gradually from this single founder's initial homestead into a larger settlement.
The settlement maintains strong ties to its farming heritage while hosting multiple schools, including Stouffville District Secondary School. You can see this blend of rural tradition and educational growth reflected in how the community uses its public spaces.
Downtown Stouffville GO Station provides regular train service to Toronto, while York Region Transit operates bus routes throughout the area. Public transit access makes it straightforward to reach downtown Toronto and other regional destinations.
The population doubled between 2006 and 2011, growing from approximately 12,400 to nearly 25,000 residents. This rapid expansion followed the connection to Lake Ontario water supply and new sewage infrastructure.
