Kanata Theatre, Community theatre in Kanata, Ontario, Canada
Kanata Theatre, also known as the Ron Maslin Playhouse, is a modern performance venue with 350 seats located in a residential area of Ontario. The building was designed by architect Peter Smith and functions as the primary home for theatrical productions.
The theatre was established in May 1996 and grew out of a play reading group that had been meeting in the community since 1968. This growth reflects how a small amateur effort eventually led to the creation of a dedicated performance space.
The theatre serves as a gathering place where the community comes together to experience and create stories on stage. Performances reflect the interests and talents of local residents who volunteer their time and skills.
The theatre sits at Ron Maslin Way near Highway 417 and provides free parking for visitors. Public transportation access is convenient through several OC-Transpo bus routes that serve the area.
Every role at the theatre operates through volunteers, from performers and box office staff to technical crews managing lights and sound. This entirely volunteer-run structure makes it a true grassroots community project.
