Line 6 Finch West

Line 6 Finch West is a light rail system running roughly 10 kilometers along Finch Avenue West with 18 stations serving the northwest part of the city. The line operates on dedicated tracks separated from regular traffic, allowing it to move passengers quickly through this busy corridor.

This project began as part of a transit expansion initiative in 2007, though construction faced multiple delays from changing priorities and budget shifts over the following years. The line finally moved forward after these obstacles were addressed through revised planning and funding.

The project acknowledges the historical presence of Indigenous Peoples, including Anishnabeg, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat nations in the construction territory.

The line uses modern rail vehicles designed for frequent stops in busy neighborhoods, making it practical for shorter trips across the corridor. Passengers will find straightforward connections to nearby areas, shopping districts, and educational campuses along the route.

The line will operate with a different rail gauge than other transit systems in the city, which allows for more modern and spacious train cars. This technical choice makes the ride more comfortable and improves how many people can travel at once.
