Black Creek Pioneer Village, Open-air museum in North York, Toronto, Canada.
Black Creek Pioneer Village is a 30-acre open-air museum with 40 historical buildings that showcase rural life in Ontario. The collection features preserved structures, working gardens, and heritage breed animals scattered across the grounds.
The village began as a preservation project for rural Ontario history, centered around the original Daniel Stong log house built in 1816. Additional buildings from across the region were later moved to this site to expand the collection.
Staff members dressed in period clothing demonstrate traditional crafts, farming practices, and everyday tasks as people performed them generations ago. Visitors can watch and observe how work and daily routines shaped the community.
The site can be reached via Pioneer Village Station on the TTC subway line, with a short walk to the entrance. Plan to spend several hours walking between the buildings and exploring the grounds at your own pace.
The Dalziel Barn contains an extensive collection of Canadian historical toys and farm tools from the 1800s that are rarely displayed elsewhere. These objects reveal how children played and how farmers worked during that era.
