Manovo-Gounda St. Floris National Park

The national park spans 17,400 square kilometers of savannas, forests, and floodplains, creating diverse habitats for numerous African wildlife species.

Established in 1979 and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, the park faced severe challenges leading to its placement on the Endangered list in 1997.

Local communities collaborate with park rangers through the 'tango guards' program, facilitating communication between herders and conservation management teams.

The park requires extensive preparation for visits due to its remote location, varying weather conditions, and the necessity of guided tours through challenging terrain.

The northern section contains floodplains near the Bahr Kameur and Bahr Aouk rivers, supporting 320 bird species including pelicans and African fish eagles.
