Zakouma National Park

Zakouma National Park encompasses 3,000 square kilometers of savannas, woodlands, and seasonal floodplains supporting diverse wildlife populations throughout the protected area.

The park, established in 1963 by presidential decree, became Chad's first national park and later received management support from African Parks organization in 2010.

Local communities participate in conservation programs, working alongside park rangers to protect wildlife while maintaining traditional connections to the surrounding lands.

Visitors can access the park daily between 09:45 and 15:15, with Tinga Lodge providing accommodation for up to 48 guests since its construction in 1968.

The elephant population in Zakouma has increased from 450 in 2010 to 636 in 2021 due to enhanced protection measures and anti-poaching initiatives.
