Ortstock

Ortstock is an Alpine summit on the border between two Swiss cantons and reaches a height of about 2,700 meters. The mountain has steep sides on the north and south, while the western flank offers a gentler ascent.

The mountain has long served as a natural border between two Alpine cantons and helped define territorial matters in this mountainous region. This boundary line shapes the landscape and history of this area to this day.

The mountain is part of a traditional hiking network that climbers have used for generations to explore the Alps. The route connects different alpine regions and shows how people use the mountain landscape for their walks.

The ascent begins from a valley and follows marked trails, with hikers of different ability levels able to climb the mountain. It is advisable to start early and bring plenty of time along with suitable gear.

The mountain holds what are called neve - partially frozen snow patches on its north side that differ from true glaciers. These snow formations offer a distinctive sight and show how the alpine environment changes with the seasons.
